Stella Maeve was born in New York. She is native American. She is most well-known for her role as Julia Wicker, the main character on The Magicians. Originating from New York, Maeve considers herself Native American. Maeve is a Blackfoot and part Cherokee. Her first appearance on screen was in the short film of 2005 Liminality. Transamerica is a highly acclaimed film comedy-drama from that same year, marked her debut on big screen. The first time she appeared on television was that same year as a season four episode of Law & Order Criminal Intent . She joined the Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise in 2014 as Nadia Decotis, Chicago P.D. . The character was portrayed by her from 2011 to 2015, and then reprised it in Law & Order Special Victims Unit, a second TV series produced by Wolf. She also began portraying the lead female character Julia Wicker in the Syfy drama series based on fantasy The Magicians that year. Stella Maeve began to establish her name in the television industry However, she also pursued her film career as an independent filmmaker. She was a part of the cast of the 2012 dramatic film Starlet she received the Robert Altman Award at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
